Gary Bateman joins Mechanics of Business as the new Managing Partner

Mechanics of Business welcomes Gary Bateman as the new Managing Partner. Gary brings a wealth of global executive leadership experience that will bring great value and benefit to our clients.


Gary is a business and technical graduate with over twenty-five years of global experience in wire and cable, chemical and personal care, life science, semi-conductor, e-mobility, renewable energy and defence industries. With global executive management expertise in functional areas of sales and marketing, manufacturing operations, quality, safety, supply chain, business development, finance, human resources and strategic planning he has worked and lived extensively in developed and developing markets in Africa, Europe, Asia and North America. These global positions has seen Gary appointed by Corning Incorporated (USA) to the board positions of Board of Management Member FOCAL (Vietnam), Board of Directors Member Leader Fibre Optical Cable (Malaysia), President Commissioner PT CCSI (Indonesia) and Commissioner PT Nusa Sakti Waskita (Indonesia). Additionally he was appointed by General Cable Corporation to the board positions of Board of Directors Member National Cables (South Africa) and Board of Directors Chairman General Cable Phoenix South Africa (South Africa), Board of Directors Member General Cable Sub Saharan Africa (South Africa) and Board of Directors Member General Cable Botswana (Botswana), as well as by the Lapp Group to the board position of Managing Director Lapp India.


The above roles allowed Gary to build a wide range of core competencies that include:

  • Enhancing organizational and operational efficiencies utilizing extensive cross functional experience

  • Driving high growth organizations to deliver superior results

  • Utilizing global mindset to create vision and sustainable strategies, understanding and managing cultural differences to build business processes to address local market and cultural dynamics

  • Utilizing global experience to act with integrity, confront unethical behaviour, building of high-performance multi-cultural teams and holding others accountable to similar performance standards
